Paul LeRoy Johnston

Paul L. Johnston of McAdam, NB passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 21, 2008. Paul was born at McAdam, NB in 1932, a son of the late Robert and Viola (McGee) Johnston. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his quiet demeanor and his generosity. Paul was an avid outdoorsman and loved to reminisce about his adventures.

He is survived by a son, William (Bill) Johnston (Donna), McAdam, NB; four daughters, Joyce Mersereau (David), Sharon Johnston, Joanne McArthur (Steven), all of McAdam, NB and Marlene DeWitt (Daniel), Hamilton, ON; a son-in-law, Stephen Priest, Nackawic; eleven grandchildren, Penny Messer (Rob), Chris Johnston, Bonnie Gahan (Stuart), Monica Mersereau, Nathan Arsenault (Patricia), Julie Arsenault, Sheri Arsenault, Keri McArthur (James Russell), Katrina McArthur, Crystal Whitty (Jeremy) and Katie Dixon (Jordan); six great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; three brothers, Karl Johnston (Violet), Stoney Creek, ON, Ronald Johnston (Beatrice), McAdam, NB and Arnold Johnston (Donna), Fredericton, NB; a sister-in-law, Rose Johnston, Fredericton, NB several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his wife, Thelma M. (Curtis) Johnston on May 4, 2008, two daughters, Margaret Johnston and Lynn Priest and a brother, David Johnston.

Visiting hours will be held at the Voice of Pentecost Church, 82 Harvey Road, McAdam on Friday, May 23, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the church on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Tompkins officiating. Interment will follow at Rockland Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Boon and Wayne Day.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Johnston, Larry Johnston, Rob Messer, Larry Moffitt, Kay Curtis and Stephen McArthur.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Paul, the family has suggested the building fund of the Voice of Pentecost Church.

Thelma Johnston

Thelma M. Johnston of McAdam, NB, wife of Paul L. Johnston, passed away May 5, 2008 at Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB. She was born at Gray Rapids, NB in 1936 and was a daughter of the late Chester and Cora (Sturgeon) Curtis. Thelma devoted her life to her family, friends and her Christian faith. She touched all who knew her by her gracious, kind and spiritual presence.

She is survived by her husband Paul, a son, William Johnston (Donna), McAdam, NB; four daughters, Joyce Mersereau (David), Sharon Johnston, Joanne McArthur (Steven), all of McAdam, NB and Marlene DeWitt (Daniel), Hamilton, ON; a son-in-law, Stephen Priest, Nackawic; eleven grandchildren, Penny Messer (Rob), Chris Johnston, Bonnie Gahan (Stuart), Monica Mersereau, Nathan Arsenault (Patricia), Julie Arsenault, Sheri Arsenault, Keri McArthur (James Russell), Katrina McArthur, Crystal Whitty (Jeremy) and Katie Dixon (Jordan); six great grandchildren; four brothers, Ashley Curtis (Margaret), Woodstock, NB, Aubrey Curtis, McAdam, NB, Wilson Curtis (Susie), London, ON and Kay Curtis, Harvey; five sisters, Hulda Sullivan (Basil), Vera Curtis, both of Gray Rapids, NB, Vella Messer, Harvey, NB, Olive Hart (Earl), Grand Bay, NB and Shirley Messer (Bert), Tweedside, NB; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by two daughters, Lynn Priest and infant Margaret.

Visiting hours will be held at the Voice of Pentecost Church, McAdam on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the church on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 2p.m. with Rev. Stephen Tompkins officiating. Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kay Curtis, Larry Johnston, Chris Johnston, Rob Messer, Kirk Montgomery and Kevin Johnston.

For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Thelma, the family has suggested the Parkinson Foundation or Foreign Missions of the Voice of Pentecost Church.

Lois Rowena Jones

The death of Lois Rowena Jones of Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB occurred on 15th of August 2004 in her 89th year.

Born in Fredericton in 1916, she was the eldest child of the late Ludlow Chester Malloy and Brittania (Noble) Malloy. Her paternal grandfather, Peter James Malloy was of UEL ancestry, her maternal grandfather, William Bedford Nobel, was a lumber baron in Sunbury County.

As a child, she lived in Milltown (Charlotte County) and attended local schools. In 1937, she married Harold Theodore Jones and moved to McAdam Junction, where they made their home. She was predeceased by her husband in 1982.

Throughout her life, she was a member of St. Paul’s United Church (McAdam), where she sang in the choir, served in the UCW, worked with the Mission Band and supported fund-raising activities. She was a 55 year member and Past Matron of York Chapter #13, Order of the Easter Star (McAdam). For a number of years, she was employed at the CPR Dining Room and later with two McAdam Stores.

She is survived by her daughter Victoria (Vicky) and by her son Theodore (Ted) and his wife Anita; four grandchildren (Stephanie, Brenda, Debra and Adam); five great grandchildren; three nephews and several cousins. Besides her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Jean Cleghorn and her brother, Donald Malloy, both of St. Stephen,

The remains are resting at St. Paul’s United Church in McAdam, with visitation on Tuesday from two until four and from seven until nine. The funeral service will take place from the church on Wednesday at 2 PM, the Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating.

Interment will be in the Rockland Cemetery, McAdam.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
